Burghound: Caroline Morey, who is the wife and winemaking partner of Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey (director of Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey) and the daughter of Jean-Marc Morey, told me that 2019 "was challenging early on but the hot and dry summer gave us no insurmountable problems. The fruit was super-clean and quite ripe so there was no sorting to speak of. While the yields weren't great, neither were they tiny and the highest potential alcohols were 13.6% in red and 14.3% in white. I used between 20 and 45% of whole clusters for the vinifications and used a pretty light extraction regimen as there were no more than three punch downs during the entire cuvaison. Because the fruit was so clean the reds were neither fined nor filtered and the whites were fined but not filtered." Morey noted that her reds were bottled in January 2021. By Allen Meadows Apr-21, Issue #82, 4/21/2021, 88 points (Domaine Caroline Morey Chassagne-Montrachet Villages Red) Subtle but not imperceptible wood and menthol elements set off the peppery and sauvage inflected red currant scents. Once again the mouthfeel of the delicious flavors is plush and round with similar finishing length and rusticity though not quite the same complexity.
